چکیده
In the framework of ‘Amorepacific Project for conservation Korean pictorial art’ (2018–2023) at British Museum, three traditional paintings have been investigated with aim supporting their and obtaining information about dyes used in mounting textiles other elements. The include a rare example late 18th-century portraiture (accession number 1996,0329,0.1); 19th-century two-panel screen silk painting Pyeongsaeng-do-Scenes life 2016,3028.1); twelve-panel representing Five Confucian virtues 1957,1214,0.1). were non-invasively by using digital microscopy fibre optic reflectance spectroscopy (FORS), results guided minimally invasive sampling campaign. Fourteen samples analysed high-pressure liquid chromatography coupled diode array tandem mass spectrometry detectors (HPLC-DAD-MS/MS), leading to identification natural indigo, sappanwood (Biancaea sappan, formerly Caesalpinia sappan), amur cork tree (Phellodendron amurense) safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) elements portrait. These confirmed some non-invasive observations agreement production date painting. Both synthetic identified panel screens. Among dyes, fuchsin (C.I. 42510), methyl violet 3B 42536), blue 42780) benzopurpurin 4B 23500) identified. are early first synthesised between 1860s 1880s, suggesting that likely dyed last part 19th century.

Paleopathological Study of Dwarfism-Related Skeletal Dysplasia in a Late Joseon Dynasty (South Korean) Population
Skeletal dysplasias related to genetic etiologies have rarely been reported for past populations. This report presents the skeletal characteristics of an individual with dwarfism-related skeletal dysplasia from South Korea. To assess abnormal deformities, morphological features, metric data, and computed tomography scans are analyzed. Differential diagnoses include achondroplasia or hypochondro...
متن کاملPaleoparasitological Studies on Mummies of the Joseon Dynasty, Korea
Paleoparasitology is the application of conventional or molecular investigative techniques to archeological samples in order to reveal parasitic infection patterns among past populations. Although pioneering studies already have reported key paleoparasitological findings around the world, the same sorts of studies had not, until very recently, been conducted in sufficient numbers in Korea. Mumm...
متن کاملHarris lines observed in human skeletons of Joseon Dynasty, Korea
The Harris line (HL), caused by bone-growth arrest and manifesting on X-rays as a radiopaque transverse line in the metaphysis of the long bones, is an indicator reflecting stress conditions such as disease or malnutrition. HL frequency has been assumed to differ between pre-modern and modern societies, as reflective of increased caloric intake and overall nutritional improvements attendant on ...

Stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis reveals the diets of different human populations in history. In this study, we performed stable isotope analysis on human skeletons from Joseon-period cemeteries discovered around Old Seoul City (Hansung). Our data clearly showed that Joseon individuals consumed more C3-based than C4-based foods as the main staples, and that the proteins they ate were...
